Contents Insurance – an Overlooked Necessity

Homeowners insurance is by far the most popular type of insurance for homeowners and in some cases mandatory. However, contents insurance is optional and often overlooked but vital. It concerns the property owned by you and usually not the concern of your bank or landlord. Contents Insurance takes into consideration the cost of replacing your possessions in the event of burglary, fire, flood or some other disaster.

Most persons think of big and expensive items when considering contents insurance such as a TV or DVD player or jewelry. These items are usually what a would-be thief goes for in the event of a break-in. However, if you home was destroyed by fire, you would have to replace these items as well as your clothes, furniture, kitchenware and even the food in your refrigerator. So with this in mind, this optional form of insurance should be seriously considered.

The good news is that some insurance companies offer savings bundles if you take out your home insurance and your contents insurance policies with them. It is definitely worth your time to shop around for these types of savings.

Contents insurance obviously covers most items within your home structure. In some cases however, you can obtain coverage for things outside the home like bicycles and gardening supplies. On the flip side certain things like willful damage of property, damage from do-it-yourself projects will not be covered.

So talk to your insurance company today and explore your options for contents insurance.
